In this day and age, with all the influx of information from the thousands of outlets across the media spectrum, do we really need another source of information? It’s a valid question and the answer is yes and I’m going to tell you why.
Cape May County is a complex region. We encompass areas of great wealth as well as great poverty. We are conservative and liberal. Republican and Democrat. There is not a single constituency; no single group to represent. What we do have are news outlets that are dedicated to promoting the businesses in the county, no matter what the cost. There is no opposing voice. No-one telling you the unvarnished truth. There is, on the other hand, a lot of back slapping and congratulatory nonsense. We need more.
That’s where The Standard comes in. We aim to be a voice of dissent to start, and hopefully we’ll grow to be a leader in the change of the growth of Cape May County. A voice of reason, and at times, a voice of hard truth. Who will hold our elected officials, from either party, accountable if we don’t talk about it? Why would we change if we don’t know there’s a problem?
We have to do better. We can be better. We are capable.
