Bob Hugin, a former chief executive and chairman of drug giant Celgene Corp, announced he will run against incumbent Bob Menendez in New Jersey for the United States Senate in the November election. But first he’ll need to win the Republican primary in June.
Meanwhile, Senator Menendez will not be running unopposed in his own primary, as he is being challenged by lawyer and activist Michael Starr Hopkins.
The pharmaceutical and life sciences industry employed 117,260 people in the state in 2016, according to a report by the state’s Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
