There is a strong argument to be made that voting for anyone other than Congressman Jeff Van Drew would be better for the Democratic Party in the long run. That time is now.

It certainly seems counterintuitive at first glance, but it’s really not that much of a stretch. Congressman Van Drew has shown himself to be more conservative than many Republicans in the House, voting against marriage equality and gun control. He has long been considered a DINO, a Democrat in name only, by the progressive wing of the party. And now Congressman Van Drew is among only 12 Democrats in the House who continues to support President Trump, despite his shocking behavior. I think it’s time we cut Jeff loose.
If we’re going to have a representative that doesn’t represent Democratic values, we might as well have a Republican that we can rail against. Sorry to be that callous and crass, but that’s where we are. Van Drew does not represent liberal values. He’s a dentist that likes to cuddle up to vets and first responders to show his patriotic street cred but who seems to have no backbone that isn’t supplied by the power brokers in Trenton.
We were better off with moderate Republican LoBiondo.
Eventually we need a strong Democratic candidate who can compete in New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District, but until then I suggest Democrats vote for my friend’s cat Steve before they vote for Congressman Van Drew again. Just write in Steve. If Steve wins we’ll worry about how to pay him in kibble.
