Multiple Progressive groups from South Jersey plan to converge Congressman Jeff Van Drew’s Office this Thursday, in what they are calling a Peaceful Presence. They are demanding that Van Drew vote yes on the upcoming Articles of Impeachment against President Trump.
Van Drew has repeatedly said he would vote no on articles of impeachment, because he hadn’t heard anything that has convinced him that the President’s actions have risen to the level of an impeachable offense.
Van Drew, one of only two Democrats to vote against formalizing the impeachment inquiry, said he plans to vote against all the articles of impeachment “unless there’s something that I haven’t seen, haven’t heard before.”
He also warned Democrats to “be careful what you wish for” and added that impeachment “is tearing the nation apart….and I want to bring people together.”
The United Progressive Democrats have organized a protest at Van Drew’s May’s Landing office on Dec 12, from 4-5pm, to protest his decision and to urge him to vote yes on articles of impeachment.
“After weeks of testimony, we can all clearly see that Donald Trump used the power of his office and our taxpayer dollars to compel the President of Ukraine to undermining his political opponent, Joe Biden,” said Elizabeth Volz, Founder of United Progressive Democrats. “Congressman Van Drew wants to wait and let the people decide but Donald Trump has already attempted to use his power to bias the election in his favor. Regardless of what the Senate will do, the United States Constitution should compel Congressman Van Drew to vote yes for impeachment.”
The United Progressive Democrats are being joined by multiple groups including Real Democrats of CD2, and various other Democratic Clubs in the district.
Rally: Thu, Dec 12, 4-5pm.
Jeff Van Drew’s Congressional Office: 5914 Main Street, Mays Landing, NJ 08330
