Governor Phil Murphy announced today, in his daily 1pm briefing, that he had signed several new executive orders in an effort to further contain the spread of the coronavirus in New Jersey.
First, the governor announced that primary elections in New Jersey will be moved from Tuesday, June 2nd to Tuesday, July 7th.
“We want to ensure that every voter can vote without endangering their health or safety,” he said. Our democracy cannot be a casualty of COVID19.”
Secondly, the Governor announced that all non-essential construction across New Jersey will CEASE, indefinitely, effective 8:00 PM Friday. Exceptions include projects at hospitals and schools, in the transportation and public utility sectors, the building of affordable housing, other individual housing sites that can adhere to strict limits on the number of workers on-site, and other limited instances. More detail about what constitutes essential or non-essential construction will be released to the public this afternoon.
The Governor further reported that New Jersey has diagnosed 3,088 new COVID-19 cases and 275 new fatalities, bringing the state totals to 47,437 cases and 1,504 fatalities.
